REACH Performance Audit

- Case: Koopman International BV

On 19 October Bureau Veritas HSE visited Koopman International BV in Amsterdam.
 
Koopman purchases non-food articles/chemical products from China and other countries in the East, and they sell these articles to stores primarily within the EU. Koopman thus does not have their own stores but they have showrooms in which the purchasers from the stores can see and choose which articles they would like to sell in their stores.
 

Koopman tests all articles

Koopman tests all articles for substances of very high concern before they are purchased. As an example ceramic cups are tested for their content of lead/cadmium in all colour variants. A complex article as a toy car is taken apart into individual material parts: rubber wheels, plastic parts, metal parts and colour variants separately. If the car contains any substances on the list of candidates or restrictions in REACH, the supplier is asked to replace the substance in question. This procedure is a natural part of REACH but requires many resources within the company. Therefore, Koopman International has more than 20 employees who take care of this matter.
 

REACH Certificate

Based on the above they needed to be able to show a certificate of their actual REACH performance. Therefore, Bureau Veritas HSE audited Koopman's REACH activities on 19 October and subsequently we issued a Bureau Veritas certificate “Verification of REACH performance” to Koopman International BV.
 

Comply with REACH

To be audited by a professional and experienced partner gives Koopman certainty that their activities comply with the obligations according to REACH. This seal of approval gives the company a good reputation and access to new markets and clients who require an audited supplier.
 

ISO certified laboatory

Koopman International has its own well-equipped laboratory, with ISO certified control where qualified chemists check that all products meet European environmental and safety regulations.
