New ADR rules may stop your transport
'As worst case - if a carrier is not aware of the new rules in the ADR convention 2009 - he may risk paying high amounts if his transport is stopped in Germany', says technical development manager Jan Holmbach Henriksen.
Amendment of rules regarding transport documents like safety emergency cards
The rules that the consignor must provide a transport of dangerous goods with transport documents as well as safety emergency cards have been changed. As a part of the new ADR convention, the specific safety emergency card has been replaced by a general safety instruction. 'It is the responsibility of the carrier that the driver understands this instruction and how to use it. The carrier must also make sure that it is available in a language understood by the driver' says Jan Holmbach Henriksen.
The rules have come into force in Germany
In Denmark we have a tradition that new rules must be implemented before the authorities intervene. But in Germany enforcement takes place immediately when new rules come into force. 'Therefore, carriers transporting dangerous goods through Germany must be especially observant' says Jan Holmbach Henriksen.
Drivers must have supplementary training
A carrier, who will forestall possible problems, must make sure that his driver has the necessary training in using the new guidelines. 'Bureau Veritas HSE can train your employees at your company within 1-2 hours as a supplement to the ADR training' says Jan Holmbach Henriksen.
